Autumn Trend – Fabric Decorating With Shades of Grey
This autumn a key colour to use for fabric decorating schemes is grey. This is a very versatile neutral colour which comes in a great many shades, so choose the one which suits your room the best. Grey is an elegant and serene colour and will introduce sophistication and calmness to a room. It comes in many shades and can be a cool or warm colour, some shades have a hint of pink or blue in them.
You can use this neutral colour in many different ways. For instance you could use a palette of greys from light to dark to create a tonal scheme, mixing different shades and textures to create a sophisticated yet relaxed scheme, ideal for bedrooms. Using them in this room with give it a boutique-hotel style which is very chic.
In a bedroom try using a pale grey for your wall colour and then team this with crisp white bedlinen, white furniture and a sparkling chandelier. Use a grey floral faded fabric for curtains. A deeper grey for an upholstered headboard and a feature wall in a metallic wallpaper.
Grey also looks great when used as a base colour and then use accents of a brighter colour to give it a very contemporary feel, hot pinks and yellows are particularly good accent colours with grey.
If you want to lighten the look of your grey room, go for white or cream furniture and glass accessories.
Another key trend this autumn is the use of metallics, particularly silver and these work extremely well with greys to dress them up and add a bit of sparkle! This could be introduced in fabrics, accessories or a feature wallpaper.
There are some beautiful grey fabrics around this season, choose from florals, stripes and tartans. Highland themes are a key trend this autumn/winter and grey tartan fabrics are a great way to bring this look into your home with a contemporary twist. Use for curtains, upholstery or as a throw.
In a lounge a grey tartan fabric would make stylish curtains or perhaps upholster an armchair in a tartan fabric, add a woollen throw in grey shades to add a cosy feel to your room. If you want to add an accent colour use this for cushions.
Grey is a great neutral colour to use and makes a welcome change from all the beige and natural neutrals that we have seen in recent years. So if you want to add a touch of sophistication and elegance to your room and be on trend use a shade of grey.
